Solus — Gaelic for Light
An art installation using light, sound and mixed media.
Solus has been produced for The Watermill by Highland-artist Gill Russell. As artist in residence in autumn 2007 for the Highland Constellation project, Gill created Sòlas (Gaelic for peace, joy or comfort) – an outdoor night-time environmental light installation in Glenuig, that is being featured on a new television series in June 2008.
This current installation, Solus, draws on the inspiration for Sòlas: it uses light and sound to give the viewer an experience that encourages the expression of emotions and ideas and heightens awareness. Components of the installation will include glowing light pieces and subtle audio that comes out of the ‘blue’, but to say more would be to give the game away!
The only way to appreciate Solus is to come and visit it at The Watermill.
The opening is at 6pm on Saturday 12th April, then daily in normal Watermill opening hours until 21 May.
