Carborondum etching and hand painting, 48 x 56 cm

The work of British artist Gillian Ayres is often devoid of a specific subject matter but through the balance of colours, the artist’s portrays the feeling and emotions evoked by a particular place or time. Her spontaneous brushstrokes are heavily influenced by abstract impressionism and the techniques of Pollock. She is also linked to the Tachiste movement by her interest in the emotive values of colour.
